25 April 2007
Affiniti signs up to global environmental consortium

Affiniti, the communications integrator, has joined The Green Grid environmental consortium. The Green Grid represents companies striving for lower power consumption in the running of data centres and information systems around the world.

Affiniti will be working with The Green Grid alongside other major industry players including BT, Cisco, Novell and Juniper to develop standards, measurement methods, processes and new technologies to improve energy efficient performance of data centres.

Launched in February 2007, The Green Grid already lists 28 of the world's largest IT companies among its members, illustrating the heavy interest in the area.

Andrew Smith, Data Centre Strategy Director at Affiniti said, "This is a great opportunity for Affiniti, along with other members of The Green Grid, to make a concerted effort to reduce the power demands of the data centres we build and run for our customers. Data centres are an essential part of an increasing number of organisations' infrastructures, and so to reduce their energy consumption makes great business sense as well as helping the environment."

Joining this consortium also supports the commitment through Affiniti's parent Kingston Communications Group, to reduce CO2 emissions under its ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System. Key initiatives such as the purchase of Combined Heat Power have already commenced.

Built from an interactive body of members who share and improve current best practices around data centre efficiency, The Green Grid's scope includes collaboration with end users and government organisations worldwide to ensure that each organisational goal is aligned with both developers and users of data centre technology.
